On Wilfredo Prieto: the artist of the month at The Art Boulevard and its last exhibition.
This month one of the protagonists of the month at The Art Boulevard is artist’s Wilfredo Prieto because of its artistic Workshops from July 27th to the 29th at the NMAC Foundation. This is why we would like to recommend the monographic exhibition that the Haggar Bicocca dedicates to him in Milan, which if you have a chance to travel to Italy during the summer you can not miss.
In the more that three thousand square meters of industrial space that this artistic centres holds, located on the outskirts of Milan, Wilfredo Prieto (Cuba 1978) presents a series of works of monumental dimensions where one can highlight the conceptual forcefulness, brief narrative absence of superfluous elements and delicate humour. A poetic language, that shares in an intelligent way persistence and subtlety, with a very personal game of semantics. In “Needle in a haystack” the artists challenges the public to literally look for a needle in a mountain of haystack, inviting us to look and interact with our surrounding through a new perspective. Prieto takes ordinary objects from everyday life, without making a hierarchical distinction between industrial products, poor materials, valuables or consumer goods. He chooses materials and objects based on the economic, social and cultural meanings they engender, and he alters their characteristics and uses, generating short-circuits of meaning that surprise the spectator and beckon one to reflect. In “Avalache” the artists collects spherical forms, placing them on a continues line, starting from a simple marble to a spherical juice bar in an orange shape producing an spherical avalanche along the exhibition space.
In Equilibrando la curva, the exhibition title, the artists creates disorienting installations with immense visual immediacy, tackling themes such as politics, the economy and the environment. The artist is often inspired by Cuban society, with which he has maintained a critical but intense relationship, but his work opens up to sweeping reflections on the globalized society and its production of goods, symbols and values.
The artistic workshops proposed by the NMAC Foundation which is part of this months activities at The Art Boulevard “Incidences from the private to the public and from the public to the private” directed by Wilfredo Prieto is a unique occasion to get to know at a first hand the artistic works of this International well known artists and share with him the artistic and creative concerns that young emerging artists might have. Do not hesitate to register to the workshop. Looking forward to see you there.
